Rose Cabat was born in 1914 in the Bronx, New York. Cabat is best known for her signature style of pottery, which she began creating in 1940. Her pieces often featured bold, experimental colors and shapes that challenged traditional ceramic forms. She was particularly interested in the use of texture, which she achieved by using a variety of glazes, including matte, satin, and gloss.

In 1956, Rose and her husband Erni began taking glaze calculation courses at the University of Hawai’i. This coursework eventually led to Cabat’s signature style of “feelie” pieces, sculptures, and figurines. By 1966, Rose’s work gained recognition nationwide, starting with an exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum.
