Villa Dei Fiori, located at 163 Seminole Avenue in Palm Beach, Florida, is one of the early architectural gems designed by Addison Mizner, the famed architect who transformed Palm Beach with his Mediterranean Revival aesthetic. Constructed in 1921, this residence embodies Mizner’s signature style—asymmetrical design, intricate stucco details, red barrel tile roofs, and arched openings—which became synonymous with the luxurious estates of Palm Beach’s elite. The house was built during the roaring 1920s, a period when Palm Beach solidified its reputation as a playground for America’s wealthiest families. Mizner’s designs attracted some of the most prominent figures of the era, and Villa Dei Fiori was no exception. Unlike some of the grander Mizner estates built for industrialists and magnates, this home was crafted as a refined retreat—an architectural jewel that blended Mediterranean elegance with an intimate, livable scale.
The original owner of Villa Dei Fiori was Orator Frank Woodward, an heir to the Jell-O fortune. Woodward commissioned Mizner to build Villa Dei Fiori as his winter residence, embracing the new tradition among America’s wealthy to establish seasonal homes in Florida. The estate remained in the family until 1947 when it was purchased by Karl W. Krauss and his wife, Rose Krauss, both accomplished artists. Their daughter, Annette Krauss Rose, inherited the home and continued its legacy as a haven for the arts.

Villa Dei Fiori wasn’t just a luxurious private residence—it became a sanctuary for artists, intellectuals, and creatives throughout its history. Designed with courtyards, expansive loggias, and picturesque gardens, the home encouraged outdoor gatherings, painting sessions, and artistic
exchanges.
Annette Krauss Rose thrived in this setting. She was an active figure in the Palm Beach art scene, exhibiting frequently and playing a role in organizing and showcasing her art in many Palm Beach and New York art fairs. Until now, her brilliant paintings have remained on display in Villa Dei Fiori and are available to collectors for the first time through Lion and Unicorn Auctions.
