The National Button Society is a nonprofit organization founded in 1938 and dedicated to the education, preservation, and exhibition of buttons. With more than 2,000 members across the United States and abroad, the society brings together Colectors, historians, artists, and enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship, beauty, and cultural history of buttons. Their mission centers on promoting research, publishing educational materials, preserving historic buttons, and fostering a shared vernacular for classification—work that led to the creation of the Blue Book, the definitive reference for identifying and categorizing buttons by age, material, design, and use.

Beyond preservation, the National Button Society actively builds community through annual conventions, competitions, workshops, and virtual programs. These events allow Colectors to learn from experts, attend presentations, shop from specialized dealers, and participate in creative challenges that highlight both antique and contemporary button artistry. The society also supports local and regional button clubs, helping new Colectors connect with mentors and resources. Through initiatives like Button University, Button Country, and ongoing exhibitions, the NBS ensures that the history and joy of button Colecting continue to thrive for future generations.
